Hopes Last Chance
Prologue
Rain. Cold, merciless rain pelted my fur, seeping down to my core, weakening me. I tried to hide from it all, pulling myself into a dry, empty corner, but it followed me. I shivered and, alone, cried.
My name is Silver. Silver the Hedgehog. I got my name because of my fur, which is also silver. I know, dumb reason, but I dont mind it. I like my name. Now, Ill admit Im not the brightest crayon in the box of 100 and, yeah I tend to be slow, but people dont notice me for that. My powers cover that. You see Im an ESP user, and being able to move things with my MIND is nothing to poke a stick at, Ill tell you. It has its usefulness in certain circumstances, but has its faults as well. But it comes in handy when I need a light; I just have to hold up my hand.
Thats what Im using it for right now. I have to say getting stuck in the rain? Sucks majorly. I felt a shiver run down my spine. I knew that I shouldnt be out and about in the rain, but I had to get out for a while and Im sure the others would understand. I zipped up my jacket and took a look around the cave. It was part of an old overpass that had been destroyed in Ibliss attack two years ago. I shuddered.
Iblis. The cause of all my troubles. He was the reason I wont stop having nightmares and the reason I cant go back to my own time. Originally, I came from the future, where Iblis runs rampid and destroys everything with his flames of disaster. I was sent to the past to find the one known as the Iblis trigger, the one who freed him from the prison he was originally in. It was up to me and my friend Blaze.
I shook my head quickly, dislodging the thought. Blazes death was the very reason for why I isolated myself from the others. My best friend
..my only friend
.gone forever. I sighed and jumped down off the cement block from which I stood and, landing with a thump, listened in silence. Through the pitter of rain on the pass above, water dripping steadily off somewhere, crying? Holding up my hand, I continued slowly and carefully until I heard it again, louder and closer this time. Hello? no answer. I took hold of a cinderblock and swung over.
Although dirty and grimy, I could tell that the figure in front of me was a female hedgehog. Her fur had a look of a dark cobalt color. Her quills, slightly longer then her elbows looked to be tipped with grey. The pattern copied itself to her ears, but her arms, legs, feet and hands were a muddy brown. Uh
hey are you-Her head shot up and I froze mid sentence. If her emerald eyes werent enough to stop you in your tracks, then the emerald STONE on her forehead would be. It was small but how such a small gem could give off so much light was beyond me.
She pushed herself back against the wall, trying to get away from me, her eyes never leaving my own. I shook my head and focused Were you the one I heard crying? She shuddered, but her eyes never left my gaze Are you okay? Again she didnt reply but shook even more so. I unzipped my jacket and took it off, already having a sleeveless on underneath. I took note that she watched my every move. She shrank back even more when I walked over to her, then finally turned away as if to block someone from hitting her.
Here. I said, draping the jacket over her shoulders You need this more then I do. Youre probably freezing. She blinked a few times then slowly, almost painfully, pulled it closer to her T-Thank you. Her voice was so small and so quiet, almost weak sounding, I had to strain to hear her.
Are you alright? She didnt answer, just drew her legs up to her chin and rested it there. Do
.you have a name? It was the only question I could think of at the moment and I knew it was the most stupidest thing to ask but I was shocked with the response I got I
..dont remember it
. Oh
well um
.. I paused. A girl who doesnt have a name? I couldnt find anything to say to her, until a large clap of thunder echoed throughout the cave.
Well
This isnt the best place to have a friendly conversation
.so
..can you walk? I
.think so
.. I held my hand out to her and helped her up, until she slumped against me some. Here I slipped my arm under her legs and picked her up gently. She let out a squeak of surprise and grabbed hold of my shoulder. I must admit I did chuckle at her reaction. Dont worry I wont hurt you. Her already week grip loosened, and as I made my way through the darkness, I noted that she was extremely light weight. I felt her head fall to my chest and looked down to find her eyes closed. I quickened my pace, concentrating my energy as I moved. I pictured a destination in my mind
.And we disappeared.
